Friends Of The Mariana Trench

Friends of the Mariana Trench (FOMT) formed in 2007 as a loose coalition of concerned citizens interested in Marine Protected Areas (MPAs), formally registering as a nonprofit organization in 2009. The heart of our mission is to inspire members of our Marianas community – from wise elders and dedicated educators to caring parents, energetic youth, and driven ocean enthusiasts. We hope to ignite a sense of pride in each individual, to recognize their role as protectors of our ocean and its invaluable resources. We are committed to achieving this purpose by offering educational programs and outreach initiatives focused on ocean conservation, which are based on a combination of Western scientific knowledge and traditional ecological wisdom.
