In 1971, the Government of the Republic of Zambia, bought a small hotel called "Victoria Hotel" situated along Church Road within the greater city of Lusaka. It was renamed "College Hotel" and was turned into a Hotel school. At this initial stage, the college Hotel was under the auspices of the Ministry of Higher Education. Later, in January 1989 it was renamed "Fairview Hotel" and was transferred from the Ministry of Higher Education to the Ministry of Tourism under the management of National Hotels Development Corporation (N.H.D.C). Since 1989, after the dissolution of N.H.D.C the college become autonomous and had since been under the management of Board of Directors appointed by the Minister of Tourism. The latest changes in management also resulted in the change of the college's name to "Hotel and Tourism Training Institute Trust"(H.T.T.I.T).
