WFIO is a privately owned news agency, and originally part of the Northwest Information Group. It was founded in 1998 and develops broadcasts in twenty languages across the world. The agency, at its peak, employed more than 400 localized correspondents across the developing world and is known for its unique localized job placement training program; teaching and hiring local individuals living within the developing nations, often under hostile conditions. Specializing in frontline combat coverage, human rights investigative reporting, and third-world political matters; on a daily basis WFIO delivered around 300 news items to their broadcast and print affiliates around the world. Based in the Netherlands, WFIO has gone through a number of acquisitions and take overs. First acquired in by the APA Media Group, which helped promote it to international status and broadcast through over 40 cable networks worldwide at its peak in 2002, which was then acquired by CME and resold to National Media Group in 2006. A short time later it was repurchased by its associated founders and Northwest Information, and most recently acquired through the RTA Network.
