Reynolds Wine Growers Sa
Our story begins in 1820, when Thomas Reynolds—an English sailor and merchant—arrived in Portugal, drawn by the wine trade. Settling in Porto with his sons Thomas and Robert, the family supplied their London warehouse with Iberian goods. In 1838 they entered the cork industry, opening a stopper factory in Albuquerque, Spain, and later expanding to additional cork works across Portugal and Spain. In 1850 the family returned to Portugal and briefly lived in Estremoz. Thomas and his namesake son soon set sail for New Zealand on a 130-day voyage, taking a large flock of merino sheep—and never returned. Robert remained in Estremoz to lead the family business, acquiring land and dedicating himself to producing quality wines with passion and purpose. Alentejo became the enduring home of the Reynolds family in Portugal. From this Alentejo legacy came Robert Rafael, then Carlos, and Carlos’s daughter Gloria. In tribute to Gloria—and to the generations who built their lives in Alentejo—her son Julian created a flagship wine bearing her name: Gloria Reynolds.
