Organized in August 1984 in Metro Manila, Philippines, SMDI has built a solid foundation in the traffic engineering and transport planning profession, as well as in comprehensive development and urban planning. Today, SMDI is an established and dynamic consultancy firm with a string of major accomplishments, backed by its pool of experienced urban transport and environmental planners, traffic engineers and simulation specialists. SMDI has been an active member of the Council of Engineering Consultants of the Philippines (CECOPHIL) since 1989. Through its affiliation with its local and global network of consultancy firms from the Philippines, Japan, Singapore, U.S.A, U.K. and Germany, SMDI has been involved in major infrastructure projects for the Philippine government and the private sector. These public infrastructure projects have been funded by the Philippine government, in cooperation with leading international financial institutions, particularly Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA), Japan Bank for International Cooperation (JBIC), International Engineering Consulting Firms Association (IECA), International Association of Traffic & Safety Sciences (IATSS), Asian Development Bank (ADB) and the World Bank. Its private sector projects consist of major developments by leading real estate property developers, toll road operators, healthcare/educational institutions and commercial/industrial corporations, i.e, Ayala Land, Belle Corporation, Ortigas & Company Ltd Partnership (OCLP), Robinsons Land Corporation, Rockwell Land Corporation, Shangri-la Properties, SM Development Corporation, SM Investments Corporation; Cavite Infrastructure Corporation (CIC), Metro Pacific Tollways Corporation (MPTC); St. Luke’s Medical Center, UST Hospital; Ateneo de Manila University, De La Salle University, and UP National Center for Transportation Studies.
