ESANI A/S is Greenland’s new national waste management company. It was established on 1 February 2019 and consists of a director and a board, whose members come from all of the participating municipalities. The main aim of ESANI A/S is to create solutions for the handling of all forms of waste in Greenland. This includes the building of two new incineration plants and 2-3 waste oil facilities. At the same time, a collection system will be established, where combustible waste can be shipped to Sisimiut and Nuuk. Other types of waste will be sent for processing to other locations in Greenland or abroad. The two new incineration plants will be located in Sisimiut and Nuuk and the waste oil facilities are planned to be located in Qarqortoq, Aasiaat and Maniitsoq. The new incineration plants will be able to incinerate approximately 53 tonnes of waste every 24 hours. In comparison, the existing incineration plant located in Nuuk can incinerate approximately 40 tonnes of waste every 24 hours. ESANI - what does the name mean? ESANI is an abbreviation created from five Greenlandic words that describe what ESANI does. The Mineral Resources Authority (MRA) is a collective term for the authorities within the Government of Greenland responsible for all aspects of the mineral exploration and mining in Greenland. Within the MRA, the Mineral Licence and Safety Authority (MLSA) is the one-door administrative authority for licences, mineral resource activities, and licence-related safety matters including supervision and inspections. Licensees and other parties covered by the Mineral Resources Act communicate with the MLSA and receive all notifications, documents and decisions from the MLSA. The purpose and ambition of Greenland School of Minerals and Petroleum (GSMP) is to ensure a skilled workforce for the Greenlandic mining and construction industries. The school was founded in 2008 and it has been managed by Hans Hinrichsen from the start. The school offers students international courses and apprenticeship programs. English dominates the mining industry the world over, and it is the school's ambition that our students can communicate effectively. In 2012, our 4 years apprenticeship programs “skilled manual miner” and “skilled operator of construction equipment” were established. Our students have been enrolled in apprenticeship placements all over Greenland, from the Thule Air Base in the North, to Greenland Ruby in the South. The school offers internationally recognized certified safety training for heavy machinery operators and is responsible for the basic training of Greenlandic shotfirers. We are engaged in developing courses based on the needs of the expanding mining and construction industries of Greenland GSMP wishes to have an open dialogue with its stakeholders in Greenland and around the world. Our school operates in 3 languages (Greenlandic, Danish & English). Questions regarding our mining school are more than welcome in any of these languages.

Sustainable Fisheries Greenland (SFG) works with fishers, industry, and researchers to ensure that the Greenland seas are fished sustainably and that it is easy to find and buy certified sustainable seafood. SFG promotes sustainability across all fisheries and uses the Marine Stewardship Council (MSC) standard to demonstrate that our fisheries live up to worldwide best practices. By choosing fish products with the blue fish of the MSC label, you are directly supporting fishing that protects our seas, and encouraging others to do the same. Currently, 70-75% of the Greenland export value of fish and shellfish are MSC-certified, primarily from well-managed West Greenland shrimp, lumpfish, and Greenland halibut fisheries. Greenland fisheries account for more than 90% of the Greenland export, and sustainability is a key aspect of not only fisheries but the entire Greenland economy. SFG is owned by representatives from the Greenland fishing industry. These share the cost of pursuing, acquiring, and maintaining MSC certificates by focusing on incremental steps toward a higher level of sustainability. SFG has 23 members, who all contribute to resolving issues and MSC-certificate conditions financially and strategically. The members all adhere to the MSC Chain of Custody (CoC) requirements which ensure that buyers and consumers buy products that are harvested responsibly, and it is a testament to the joint effort to manage our seas sustainably.
