Journal Le Voyageur News Paper

Estevan Mercury
The Estevan Mercury has been the leading choice of news in the Estevan area for well over 100 years. E.A. Bailey was the first owner/publisher of The Mercury in 1903. In 1905 The Mercury was sold to Donald Dunbar. By the mid-1930s, Dunbar sold The Mercury to his son, Donald Jr, who continued to operate it until 1944. He then moved to Copper Cliff, Ont, which prompted the sale to Andrew King and sons Stirling and William of Rouleau. They published the newspaper for 14 years, through a huge boom period of growth fueled by the oil industry. Their show poster and commercial printing business was as large and significant as the actual newspaper. As their family dispersed to take on new challenges, the Kings were ready to sell the paper in 1958. The paper would change hands several times over the next couple of decades until it was purchased by Peter Ng. In 2004 Ng sold The Mercury to Glacier Media. The Mercury is still at the forefront of news gathering in the community, whether it be good news, bad news, sports, arts and entertainment and so much more. We don't shy away from reporting all the happenings of our city as we find them, and see them.

Penticton Herald
It has been more than 100 years since the words were put to paper, but the pages still tell a story. The date was July 21,1906 when W.J. Clement published the first edition of the Penticton Press, the newspaper which would later become the Penticton Herald, now one of only a few papers in British Columbia to deliver every day. Headlines from Penticton that have graced the pages include the Penticton Vee's world championship hockey victory, a devastating fire in the hills east of Penticton known as the Garnet Fire, the return of the SS Sicamous and celebration of the city's heritage. Today, the Herald produces a wide portfolio of targeted publications, including Real Estate Today and the Herald Extra, and has a robust toolkit to help businesses with their digital footprint from social media training, to online reputation management, to retargeting campaigns. The Herald is owned by Continental Newspapers Canada Ltd. We continue to this day to provide seven-day service to our readers both online and in the timeless tradition of print.

The Charlatan
The Charlatan has been publishing at Carleton for more than 60 years. The first issue was published on Nov. 28, 1945 under the name the Carleton. In the 1970s the name was changed to represent a more edgy newspaper the editors sought to shape. In 1988 the Charlatan became independent from the Carleton University Students’ Association, and is now funded primarily through a student levy granted each year, but also through advertising. As a not-for-profit corporation the Charlatan’s finances are overseen by an independent Board of Directors. The board is controlled by five students-at-large, two representatives of the newspaper's staff, one professional journalist and one professional businessperson. Each year the newspaper will elect an editorial staff in March to take office the following publication year. The editorial staff consists of 11 people: an editor-in-chief, two news editors, a culture & community editor, a features editor, an opinions/editorial editor, an arts editor, a sports editor, a photo editor and a graphics editor. The editorial staff meets each week to discuss what editorial positions the newspaper will take and other important decisions. The newspaper will only publish works by Carleton students and is a primarily volunteer-run organization. Although the editorial staff is paid, all of the newspaper’s writers, photographers, graphic artists and so forth work on a volunteer basis. The newspaper publishes on a rolling basis online with three special print editions throughout the school year, breaking only for exam sessions and reading week.
