Women Empowerment Network - Wen

The equality between men and women in Georgia remains a serious issue. Despite a number of recent affirmative steps taken, including the establishment of domestic violence shelters and the strengthening of criminal prosecution mechanisms to combat violence against women, women remain disadvantaged in many aspects. Enhanced institutional support mechanisms, such as improved child care, health services, equal access to quality education are required to improve women’s capacities and foster better recognition of women’s role in the Georgian society. Nevertheless, serious institutional breakthrough is impossible without the mobilization of women as the main stakeholders who will voice their own needs, set reform goals, mobilize public support for change and make transformative decisions. Such a mobilization and organization is only possible when a critical mass of women leaders exists, which comprehends the seriousness of women’s issues and the necessity of advancing gender sensitive change. Specific impact of the project This project aims to create a network of women leaders. By selecting young women that have the best potential to become women leaders, by empowering them through awareness raising and mentorship and by bringing together the network of already established senior leaders, the project will weave together a group of women leaders that will set the agenda for change in terms of affirming women’s role in public life. The project becomes increasingly important considering the recent initiative of the Georgian Parliament to adopt gender quotas for electoral party lists. It will be even more significant to have prepared a cohort of young women who will have enough insight and preparation to respond to the newly available opportunities for political engagement.

Center For Participation And Development

Center for Participation and Development is an NGO, which was created in 2012 by the group of the civil society activists, experts and public figures with different professional background from Georgia, US and Europe as an entity and in the meantime call for the new policy and practical approaches to the issues of tolerance, citizenship and diversity combining challenges and resources for the adequate development of the civil society in Georgia. CPD works with youth and minorities promoting civil integration and participation of vulnerable groups in decision-making processes, as well as the development of tolerant society in Georgia and in the Eastern Partnership region by raising the level of civic consciousness, harnessing advocacy skills among vulnerable groups, working on formal and non-formal education. The UNICEF office in Georgia was opened in Tbilisi at the end of 1993 in order to provide humanitarian assistance in response to the conflicts and social crises in the country. As the political, economic and financial situation stabilised, UNICEF shifted its emphasis from emergency to rehabilitation and development. UNICEF works through five-year cooperation programmes being developed in partnership with the Government of Georgia. 2011 saw the start of a new five-year Government of Georgia/UNICEF country programme seeking to help the country achieve its commitments to children under the 2015 Millennium Development Goals. The country programme for 2011-2015, through its two major components – ‘Integrated and inclusive systems for children’ and ‘Social policy, child rights monitoring & communication’ – is designed to ensure that children, especially those living in the poorest families, are able to benefit from quality social services, enabling them to enjoy life in a family environment. The programme supports the Government in providing quality education to all school-aged children, and contributes to reducing child mortality by strengthening perinatal services in the country. Children in conflict with the law remains an important target for UNICEF, and the programme works to ensure that more children are diverted from the penitentiary system, with greater support from social workers and psychologists. UNICEF works with the Government and civil society partners in the implementation and monitoring of the Convention on the Rights of the Child.

Media Development Foundation (MDF) is a leading Georgian NGO in media monitoring, research, and communication, specialized in detecting and verifying fake media content. With its well-established media literacy programs and experienced fact-checkers, MDF aims to promote critical thinking in media consumers and to raise awareness on the importance of fighting fake news. In 2014 MDF launched a fact checking web-portal Myth Detector to track disinformation flow, to analyze major trends in propaganda methods and respond to fake media content with fact based approach. Based on practical experience in fact-checking, MDF has developed media literacy training program with special focus on verification of fake media content and provides series of workshops and trainings for teachers, students and young EU ambassadors, in Tbilisi and regions of Georgia, as well as, organizes 3-month courses in media literacy -"Myth Detector Laboratory", working with youth between 18-28. At an international level, MDF works together with Deutsche Welle Akademie’s Media and Information Literacy Expert Network (MILEN) promoting critical thinking and since 2019 is a signatory and a badge holder of the International Fact-Checking Network (IFCN) of the Poynter Institute - dedicated to bringing together fact-checkers worldwide. To combat pro-Kremlin disinformation and propaganda, since 2016 MDF has been cooperating with EUvsDisinfo - the flagship project of the European External Action Service’s East StratCom Task Force. MDF has also been actively engaged with Konrad-Adenauer-Stiftung (KAS) since 2018, bringing together journalists from all Eastern Partnership countries to discuss anti-Western propaganda and fake content in the media landscape all over the world and in post-Soviet countries specifically.

The Association of Georgian Girl Scouts Dia is a uniquely girl-only, youth organisation empowers girls and young women by enabling them to be a positive force for change both in themselves and in the world around them. Dia is open for girls and young women aged 6-30 to participate in the exciting adventure of Girl Scouting and offers interesting opportunities for adult volunteers of all ages. Solidarity Community is a non-governmental organization based in Adjara, Georgia. Our mission is to raise awareness about the region (Adjara), promote cultural heritage, strengthen social and civic engagement, support the self-organization of the Muslim community, and promote the practices of solidarity. The aim of the organization is to study the religious identity, legal issues, and history of Georgian (Ajarian) Muslims; To study and protect the rights of women and youth from rural areas, also to Promote and save Georgian-Islamic cultural heritage; To support regional and community development. Mirabaldebi Მირაბალდები

მირაბალდები" არის არასამთავრობო ორგანიზაცია, რომლის მთავარ მიზნებს წარმოადგენს: ქალთა მიმართ ან/და ოჯახში ძალადობისა და მასთან ბრძოლის ხერხებზე საზოგადოების ცნობიერების ამაღლება; ძალადობის მსხვერპლთა დაცვა და მხარდაჭერა. მიზნების განსახორციელებლად ორგანიზაცია აქტიურად ახორციელებს სხვადასხვა სოციალურ კამპანიებს, ატარებს საინფორმაციო შეხვედრებს, ტრენინგებსა და საქველმოქმედო აქციებს, კანონმდებლობით დადგენილი წესის გათვალისწინებით. ორგანიზაცია „მირაბალდები“ სამი დომინიკელი აქტივისტი დის სახელობისაა, რომლებიც ჯერ კიდევ XX საუკუნეში იბრძოდნენ ძალადობის წინააღმდეგ. ჩვენ სწორედ ამ მიმართულებით ვმუშაობთ 2018 წლიდან, ამიტომ ამ სახელს ჩვენთვის დიდი სიმბოლური დატვირთვა აქვს. „მირაბალდების“ საქმიანობის ძირითადი სფერო და მთავარი გზავნილი საზოგადოებისთვის გამოხატულია მის სლოგანში: „განათლება ძალადობის წინააღმდეგ“."Mirabaldebi" is the non-governmental organization whose main goals are: to raise awareness of domestic/general violence towards women; to support and protect the survivors of violence. To reach the goals the organization actively implements different social campaigns, holds informative meetings, trainings and charity workshops, according to the legislative norms. The organization "Mirabaldebi" is named after the three Dominican activist sisters, who were fighting against the violence in XX century. We are working directly towards the above mentioned issues since 2018; thus this name is very symbolic for us. The main working sphere of "Mirabaldebi"''Herstory and Mirabaldebi'' and the main message to the public is represented within our slogan:"education against violence".
