United Way Niagara
WHAT WE DO United Way Niagara exists to support the most vulnerable people, when and where they need it, by investing in life-changing programs that strengthen the social safety net and build capacity in Niagara. We face poverty head on, addressing the interconnected issues it causes every day; homelessness, food insecurity, isolation, mental health and addiction. United, we address the challenges of today – meeting basic, urgent needs - while building a stronger community for everyone who lives here, paving the way for a better tomorrow. HOW WE DO IT United Way Niagara not only meets the immediate, urgent and basic needs in the short term, we also bring together the private, public and social sectors to tackle the systemic social issues that are often the root cause of these needs. We understand that in order for whole communities to thrive, the needs of every individual living there must be met. Needs such as access to nutritious food, safe housing, stable income and social connections. We also understand that complex social issues are often caused by systemic problems that are fundamental contributing factors to vulnerability. Poverty, discrimination and inequity are prime examples of these issues.

Ching Tien Foundation For Women
The Ching Tien Foundation for Women identifies and develops the next generation of female leaders by providing promising young women from Asia with scholarships opportunities to pursue graduate studies and professional training in a global setting. Our programs are designed for scholarship recipients to develop the mindset, confidence and leadership skills to give back and become changemakers for tomorrow. In recent decades, Asian economies have become increasingly dynamic, but gender inequality remains deeply entrenched in Asian culture and impedes the development of women leaders. In particular, women from underprivileged communities lack access to the higher education and global exposure that can transform them into leaders and role models. The Ching Tien Foundation for Women builds on the legacy of Educating Girl of Rural China (EGRC). EGRC was a grassroots Canadian charity that operated in rural Western China for 18 years. From 2005 to 2023, EGRC supported over young rural Chinese women with financial sponsorship and emotional support to complete high school and university education, achieving a graduation rate of over 99%. In addition to supporting women from China, the Ching Tien Foundation supports women from other Asian countries. Scholarships recipients undertake social impact projects, receive mentorship and soft skills training, and are encouraged to envision plans to give back to their communities. Our programs require scholarship recipients to seek out hands-on experience in the areas of leadership, social impact and cross-cultural communications.

Sovereign Order Of St. John Of Jerusalem, Knights Hospitaller
Our modern Sovereign Order of St. John is an ecumenical, international, Christian organization directly descended from the close collaboration of Crusader Knights with the Hospitaller activities at the Hospice founded before the turn of the 12th Century by Amalfi merchants for pilgrims in Jerusalem. The resultant Knights Hospitaller Organization was recognized as an Order of Chivalry by Pope Pascal II in a Papal Bull dated February 15, The Sovereign Order strongly influenced history in the Holy Land, Rhodes and Malta over the next six tumultuous centuries, and established itself in its hospitaller role as well. Our modern Sovereign Order of St. John descends from the Russian Priories established by Grand Master Tsar Paul I of all the Russias who, following the conquest of Malta by Napoleon in 1798, welcomed the Sovereign Order. Today, the Knights and Dames of the Sovereign Order have a strong sense of its history and Hospitaller traditions. Artists For Peace And Justice
Artists for Peace and Justice (APJ) was born in a California living room, bringing together actors, directors, writers, performers and artists with leading thinkers and social justice activists to challenge the prevailing political thought post 9/11. Those meetings turned to direct actions and our own efforts turned to alleviating the most extreme poverty in the Western Hemisphere. When the catastrophic earthquake struck Haiti in 2010, APJ was well-equipped to respond, as we were on the ground and already had solid working relationships with the most effective community leaders there. Hand-in-hand with our Haitian partners we created two large and vital institutions for the very poor: our free high school, The Academy for Peace and Justice, and our free post-secondary school, Artists Institute. Together they provide a dignified education and employment for over youth and adults who would otherwise have no viable alternative. Today, as a group of artists committed to using our voices to inspire activism and direct action, we are more determined than ever to unite our human family to stand firmly together to ensure greater peace and justice for all.
