Laboratory Of Industrial & Energy Economics - Liee
The Laboratory of Industrial and Energy Economics (LIEE) is an academic unit in the School of Chemical Engineering, National Technical University. The LIEE provides financial and administrative knowledge of high level by continuing the tradition of the School of Chemical Engineering NTUA that started in the 60s by the initiative of Professor Aggelos Kalogera, pioneer for his time and in the Greek area. The current staff and line of research was carried out in the early 90s with the decisive contribution of the Director, Lefteris Papagiannakis. The educational project that provides the LIEE focuses on the modern chemical engineer as a scientist who is able to understand the economic environment, constraints and challenges that these pose to the exercise of his profession and of the industrial activity in general. Also, LIEE provides, at postgraduate level, a wide range of courses associated with basic research directions. In particular, research in LIEE has developed in the following areas: Economic and Strategic Analysis of Industry, Innovation and Technology Energy and Environmental Economics and Policy Technological, Economic and Strategic Analysis of the Information Society Operations Research and Decision Making In all of these areas the LIEE conducts basic and applied research in programs funded by the European Union, government agencies and private sources. To this end, it has developed a wide network of collaborators from universities, research institutes and other scientific organizations in Greece and abroad that have similar or complementary interests.

Open Lab Athens
Open Lab Athens is a non-for-profit organisation; a design initiative of researchers and practitioners who engage in spaces of “social innovation”. Acknowledging the politics and values embedded in any system and infrastructure, we conceive social and technical systems that sustain and reproduce practices of solidarity, horizontality, and radical democratic participation. Our research contributes to Computing, Social Movements, Design and Digital Civics research. Our members come from diverse backgrounds (i.e. computing science and engineering, sociology and humanities), which in combination with our employed participatory methods give shape to an interdisciplinary approach to technology design. Open Lab Athens operates as a network of academics, practitioners and researchers interested to form and participate in a collective that gets involved with communities of social innovation and designs technology to support and extend these. We draw our resources from the network of collaborating institutions and research grants. We use such funding to employ people that subscribe to our values and vision on a project basis, with a goal to include them as full members in the organisation and running of the lab.

Hellenic Complex Systems Laboratory
Established in 1993, Hellenic Complex Systems Laboratory (HCSL) is an innovative research laboratory dedicated to the evaluation and reduction of uncertainty in complex systems. Employing a transdisciplinary approach, HCSL develops novel clinical, laboratory, research, and educational tools to assess and address uncertainties inherent in complex processes. Our primary research areas are: a) Design, evaluation, and optimization of quality control (QC) in laboratory medicine. b) Measurement uncertainty evaluation and expression. c) Diagnostic accuracy assessment techniques. d) Application and methodology of Bayesian inference in medical diagnosis. Additionally, HCSL explores network science, genetic search processes of genetic algorithms (GAs) and statistics of complexity. Notable achievements include: a) 1993: Pioneered the GAs based design of statistical QC. b) 2009: Developed a theoretical framework and algorithm for optimizing statistical QC of an analytical process, based on the reliability of the analytical system and the risk of analytical error. c) 2021: Introduced a method for estimating the uncertainty of diagnostic accuracy measures, using uncertainty of measurement propagation. d) 2022: Designed one-dimensional convolutional neural networks (NNs) to be applied to QC samples of very small size. e) 2023: Developed a computational tool for parametric and nonparametric Bayesian medical diagnosis. HCSL has actively participated in standards-developing committees of Clinical and Laboratory Standards Institute (CLSI). In addition, it has been a founding node of the Network of Excellence in Evolutionary Computing (Evonet), and a member organization of the Consortium for the Barcode of Life (CBOL).
