I collaborate with design teams on managing projects (web or app) from the first Wireframe to the Design documentation files handed over to the DEV magicians. Yes, design files and systems should be presented in a clear easy-to-understand way not only to clients but also throughout you team of designers and developers. I also communicate frequently with clients to help better visualise their ideas. While talking about ideas I believe that an open communication with developers is essential - this way we can achieve the client's goals faster and easier.
