Originally from Denmark, based in Belgium where I work as designer, filmmaker and co-owner of Boutique Vanhille G•••. In 2018 I returned to Europe after a two and a half year stay in Shanghai, where I worked as academic leader, designer and senior lecturer at Shanghai Institute of Visual Art - BA Fashion Undergraduate Program - Gottelier Studio at DeTao. In 2008 I achieved a First-class Honours Degree from Central Saint Martins BA Women’s Wear, where I trained under illustrator and women’s wear pioneer Howard Tangye and John Galliano Atelier. In 2014 I achieved a Masters Degree with Distinction from The Royal Danish Academy of Fine Art and Design. I have a rich work experience in teaching creative thinking and development through unconventional means, to help students uncover their own way of expression. I have been a visiting lecturer at the BA Women’s Wear at Central Saint Martins in London, the GXNU Academy of Fine Arts and the Dirk Wynant’s Furniture Design Department in China amongst others. My work as a designer is design as a tool for storytelling. My approach to design is the ability to use any given word, concept or question as a design assignment, visualized as large scale 3D illustrations, film or wearables. I have engaged in collaborations with fine artists, theatres, designers, musicians and choreographers such as artist Cally Spooner, artist Andreas Emenius, production company Battle Royal, artist residency Ernst Projects and others, in London, Copenhagen, Stockholm, Amsterdam, Paris and Berlin. My work has been shown in music videos for musician Trentemøller and Peter Albrechtsen, at art institutions such as HEART- Museum of Contemporary Art, Copenhagen Contemporary Art Centre and AArhus 2017 during the European Capital of Culture. I have established and are now running an interior shop in the Unesco protected city of Bruges in Belgium, together with my partner, where we restore and sell vintage items and furniture as well as our own designs. / Insta: emilie.G••• / vanhille.G•••
