When it comes to business ethics, I have three convictions- Public expectations towards more integrity in economic, social and political life will continue to grow - integrity increases the quality of business operations, administrative processes and political decisions - We all expect companies, administrations or associations to behave with integrity; what is new is that we now expect these organizations to demonstrate what they have done to ensure integrity in their daily operations. Having worked on anti-corruption compliance issues since 1997, I realized that companies who had invested in integrity were not being rewarded in the market place. This led me to design the first anti-corruption certification process which I launched with my company, ETHIC Intelligence, in 2006. As the international demand for ETHIC Intelligence certification grew, I was invited to participate in the drafting of the ISO 19600 standard on Compliance Management Systems and the ISO 37001 standard on Anti-Bribery Management Systems. After certifying many companies worldwide and in a great variety of sectors, I sold ETHIC Intelligence in 2018. which is now a property of an investment fund, Compliance Venture. Today, as President of the Center for International Research on Compliance, Ethics and Finance (CIRCE Finance) I share my 25 year experience on Risks, Ethics and Compliance with senior executives and boards in private, public and international organizations. In 2021, I have accepted to join the RegTech company, Smart Global Governance (SGG) as Chairman of their Scientific Committee, with the mission to ensure that SGG digital and AI powered solutions are constantly up to date with emerging legal requirements and social expectations and always respond to Chief Compliance Officers’ and General Counsels evolving concerns and needs.
