English Teacher at Elfa

About

On the record

I am a passionate, young teacher with a little over nine years experience ( including practicals). I have had the pleasure to teach in both disadvantaged and advantaged schools, the experience form these types of schools has equipped me to be a hard worker, to always be creative and most importantly to be to be more adaptable in any situation. Most recently I have been teaching Asian students English on line and the experience has been heart- warming, challenging, eye- opening but never dull. It’s always amazing to interact with different people and learn more about their culture, beliefs, cuisine and much more - all this through a screen. All thanks to technology. In fact it’s online teaching that inspired me to want to go and teach abroad, to have the real life experienced the different nations and cultures. Although I have worked with both native and non native speakers, I have a vast experience with teaching second language speaking students. I have a better understanding of their biggest challenge as second language English speakers and have been able to find a way to over come those challenges. Pictures, games, song and dance are just some of the few ways which assisted learners with bettering their speaking, listening and writing levels, not forgetting to read, read and read. I have good content knowledge of the English Language and I am skilled in designing my own lesson plans, tasks, tests and exams. Further more, I am confident in managing large groups of children both in and out the classroom. I have a keen interest for the arts; including debate, public speaking and directing plays, which is why I always made it a priority to involve myself in any of these categories when given the chance. Previously I have assisted learners in winning major competitions relating to these spheres. I have been involved in fundraising committees and assisted management immensely with implementing any ideas put forth by the staff. I have also played a role in choosing prefects at schools and assisting in educational camp tours. I enjoy working independently or in a group, although I do enjoy working collaboratively with others more. Currently I am back home in South Africa awaiting my next adventure. To add the topping on the cake, I cannot stress how much I love children, I enjoy teaching them and learning from them.
