Having presented the rich cultural heritage of the Diocese of Augsburg in the museums of Füssen from 2016 to 2022, I have joined the diocese in order to contribute to her future in a changing world. After an apprenticeship and work as a boatbuilder in Germany and England, I studied Archaeology and Ethnology at the University of Kiel and wrote a doctoral thesis on medieval merchant seafaring at the Danish National Museum's Centre for Maritime Archaeology in Roskilde (examined at Kiel in 2001). From 2003 to 2015, I worked as a curator of research and publications at the Viking Ship Museum in Roskilde. I am experienced in- research in the fields of medieval, maritime and experimental archaeology- editing and publishing of articles and books in English, Danish and German- planning of research conferences in several European countries, including Turkey- external supervision of PhD candidates- teaching students- outreach to the general public- curation of exhibitions- coordinating and leading teamwork- museum administration, including the caretaking of historical monuments and objects- boatbuilding, sailing and navigation. I am dedicated to projects and institutions which make the world a better place to live in, with regard to cultural identity and heritage, the preservation of nature, and the sustainable use of our resources. In response to the Russian invasion of Ukraine, I have re-joined the German Armed Forces as a reservist.
