Retiring after more than a quarter of a century of a career in information technology, I decided to 'give back' by starting REcompute, an organisation that solicits donations of older and unused laptops, which I wipe completely clean, then on which I install Linux, and give away to members of the community so they can begin their #digitaljourney, creating #digitalequity and crossing the #digitaldivide This keeps older machines out of the landfill, extends their useful life (Linux requires vastly fewer hardware resources to run effectively and can be constantly upgraded) and provides the opportunity to access the digital world to those who might otherwise not enjoy and experience it.
