About
On the record
I hold a Master's degree in Ocean Science, Conservation, and Innovation, as well as a Bachelor's degree in Biology Education. Additionally, I am certified in Marine Mammal Observation (MMO) and Passive Acoustic Monitoring (PAM) through the JNCC program. Currently, I serve as a Marine Policy Officer at BirdLife Malta, where I focus on national and EU biodiversity regulations. My work involves drafting policy briefs, contributing to public consultations, opposing harmful developments, and supporting advocacy campaigns. I also have extensive experience as an MMO/PAM Operator, having worked on survey vessels in the Mediterranean, the North Sea, the Baltic Sea, and off the eastern coast of Ireland. My role has centered on ensuring compliance with JNCC guidelines and local protocols during offshore seismic surveys while monitoring for protected species. I am proficient in using PAMGuard software for acoustic detection and have hands-on experience with Seiche, MSeis Night Hawk and Acoustic Marine Systems (AMS) hardware. I am skilled in configuring PAM equipment, deploying and recovering hydrophone arrays, and producing detailed, high-quality reports.
