About
On the record
As a Ph.D. in Water and Environmental Engineering with over 25 years of international experience, I have devoted my career to advancing sustainable water management through innovation, science, and collaboration. Known as Dr. Water®, I lead technical and strategic initiatives that bridge engineering excellence with environmental stewardship—serving communities, companies, and ecosystems across the Americas, Europe, and Asia. I am Co-Founder and Chief Water Officer at Water Co, a firm dedicated to developing water solutions that generate both financial resilience and environmental sustainability. Our services integrate watershed-scale planning, hydraulic infrastructure, artificial intelligence, and corporate water stewardship—helping clients achieve compliance, enhance brand value, and unlock new markets. As a trusted advisor, I have worked with global institutions such as IDB Invest, FAO, IFAD, IUCN, and UC Davis, and with regional leaders like CMI, Grupo HAME, and AgroAmerica. In 2024, I co-led with IDB Invest the development of the Sustainable Framework for the first Blue Bond in Mesoamerica (BNCR), a milestone in the region’s Blue Economy that spans Mexico, Central America, and the Caribbean. I was also a featured speaker at the 98th Arizona Water Conference, where I presented innovative case studies on urban cooling through water balance, reuse, AI, and reforestation in Phoenix and Tempe. Beyond consulting, I am the Founder of the Dr. Water Podcast, a space for global conversations on water, resilience, and purpose, and a regular Op-Ed contributor to La Hora GT, where I share reflections and proposals on environmental governance. My academic background includes research in riparian ecohydrology, hydrological modeling, and nature-based solutions in arid regions, supported by institutions like the Polytechnic University of Valencia (Spain), JICA (Japan), and the University of San Carlos (Guatemala). I’ve led multidisciplinary teams of up to 50 people and delivered multimillion-dollar projects across 20 countries. Previously, I served as General Manager at Ofiteco Guatemala (2013–2015), where I led hydraulic and hydroelectric infrastructure projects, and as Professor of Hydrology at Rafael Landívar University (2020–2022). Earlier in my career, I advised the Vice Presidency of Guatemala and other Ministers on national water policy and international water governance with Mexico and El Salvador. I believe water is not only a resource—but a force that connects technology, equity, climate resilience, and human dignity.
