In 2006 I was selected in an internal selection process to work in the Economic Department of the Central Bank of Brazil. The interview, advanced for the time, consisted of a quick conversation with the head of the department, in front of her computer, where she showed me her main challenge and we discussed some possible solutions. Three years later I presented the solution, which I called IBCR, which was transformed into the IBC-Br, Economic Activity Index of the Central Bank - Brazil, one of the most followed economic indicators to date. Fast Forward ten more years, writing my doctoral thesis where I applied artificial intelligence to macroeconomic data, I came across the concepts of DATA-CENTRIC versus MODEL-CENTRIC approach. I realized then that this was the game changer for me to find the IBC-Br solution. While researchers were looking for the best model to solve the problem, I focused my efforts on looking for the best data.
