Born in Tasikmalaya – West Java – Indonesia on September 9th, 1952. Received PhD degree on Microbiology from Queensland University, Brisbane – Australia in 1989. My present position, Chairman for the National Evaluation Committee of Indonesian Researcher and Secretary to the National Professor Research Council. I served as a Vice Chairman of the Indonesian Institute of Sciences (LIPI) between 2010 and 2012, Deputy Chairman of LIPI for Life Sciences and Chairman for the National Commission Man and the Biosphere Program (MAB) UNESCO from 2001 to 2010 and member for the International Coordinating Council Man and Biosphere (MAB)- UNESCO from 2007 until 2011. I was Chairman of Board of Trustee for PROSEA from 2001 to 2010 and member of the Board of Trustee of PROTA. I am President for the Association for the Conservation and Sustainable use of Microbial Genetic Resources in Asia in 2008. I represent Indonesia as Associate Member to GBIF, member for the National Research Council of the Republic of Indonesia until 2009, member of National Bioethic Commission Indonesia and member for the Asian Bioethic Comission, and member IGBC UNESCO until 2015. I am recipient of Medal of Honor (Satya Lencana Karya Satia 10, 20, and 30 years) and Satya Lencana Pembangunan from the President of the Republic Indonesia, recieves the Highest Medal of Honor “BINTANG JASA PRATAMA” from President of the Republic of Indonesia in 2006 and recipient of ASEAN Meritorius Award 2009, and recipient of the Australian Alumni Awards 2011.
