About
On the record
I am a junior at the University of Iowa majoring in Human Resources Management. Since early childhood, I have been immersed in the Latvian culture. Outside of my regular studies, I have spent my entire life attending Latvian elementary and high schools, Latvian scouts, folk dancing groups, choirs, camps, a high school study abroad cultural experience to Latvia, a four-year Latvian summer high school program, and post-graduation work experiences at a Latvian language summer high school and summer camp. These experiences have given me the unique opportunity to learn the language, history, and culture of my grandparents, who escaped the wrath of Communism in Latvia during WWII and subsequently lived in European displaced persons camps, eventually attaining the American Dream by immigrating, settling, working and raising families in the United States. It is this resilience, perseverance, and work ethic that I have inherited that has made me a successful student. Further, it has gifted me with a deep appreciation and curiosity for other cultures and the drive to study and intern abroad. I am active in American Latvian organizations and understand the importance of connectedness and giving back to the community locally and outside of the U.S. The experiences I gained being involved in local, charitable service organizations in high school have stayed with me, and have prompted me to seek out service opportunities here on campus. The business classes I have taken thus far have already taught me many essential foundational skills needed to be successful in a career in business. The work ethic and drive for success I have inherited has paid off, as I have earned high marks in my college courses.
