I am a junior engineer whose main experiences and skills come from my studies and hobbies. During high school I excelled in most subjects but chose to continue my studies in a STEM major – specifically engineering. Stellenbosch University offered me the opportunity to study Mechatronic engineering, an interesting combination of mechanical and electronic expertise. Nearly all subjects were mathematics-related which improved my analytical thinking and approach to problems. Some essential skills I learned include Programming (C, Matlab, R, machine learning), computer science, electronics, data science and modelling, Autodesk (Revit, Inventor, Autocad), and project management. The course continuously allowed me to work in multi-disciplinary teams, with people from different backgrounds. After my studies, I started working on a contract basis at Paratus Telecommunications as a Core Engineer. The specialised field has been a great opportunity to learn. I’ve worked on the voice core and radio access network. Looking forward to learning much more and becoming a great and flexible engineer.
