I am a Group Risk and Control Leader and Board Advisor, leveraging a multifaceted international career that spans several asset classes and products to drive strategic transformation and organisational change in highly regulated, financially orientated enterprises. Currently, I act as Group Chief Risk Officer (GCRO) at Burgan Bank covering six MENAT countries. Alongside this role, I also provide independent advisory services to both the Board Risk Committee (BRC) and the full Board, at the subsidiary bank in Turkey, and act as BRC Secretary, and Non-Voting Risk Advisor to the Board Credit Committee at Burgan Bank Kuwait. Prior to my time at Burgan Bank, I spent a year as Head of Risk at Qatari Diar Real Estate Sovereign Fund and four years as GRCO of EFG Hermes Group, based in Egypt, where I led major transformational change programmes. During this period, I continued to grow my board advisory experience, including chairing or serving on several committees. In my capacity as a critical advisor to boards on a broad range of risk, audit and control issues, I have helped navigate routes to expansion, turnarounds, stabilisation through de-risking, and strategic change, while building commercially aligned, fit-for-purpose risk capability. This includes overseeing re-engineering, governance and performance improvement projects. My earlier career includes responsibility for the Americas region as Managing Director of DEPFA Bank, operational and enterprise risk leadership roles at Credit Suisse and VP Derivatives Controller at JP Morgan. With a background in public and private financial services spanning four continents and eight countries, I have a proven track record in formulating effective risk strategies and revitalising risk cultures. I directly enable commercial success and franchise-wide standardisation by executing fit-for-purpose risk operating models. Additionally, my strong commitment to nurturing collaborative stakeholder relationships up to board level has enabled me to empower leadership teams aligned with a shared strategic vision.
