About

On the record

I am the Founder and Creative Director of IBUKU, an international design studio based in Bali that creates homes, campuses, and destinations designed to reconnect us with nature, ourselves, and each other. Rooted in bamboo design innovation, IBUKU has evolved to lead architectural mixed-media projects that merge craftsmanship and technology, natural materials, and modern solutions—toward a more beautiful and sustainable future. Since founding IBUKU in 2010, I have led the creation of over 200 unique structures, from the pioneering bamboo designs at Green School Bali and Green Village to luxury resorts, including projects for Four Seasons, Como Hotels, and Ritz Carlton. Our work includes the Arc at Green School, a groundbreaking tensile bamboo structure, and innovative homes featured in Apple TV+’s Home (Episode 2). I’ve shared IBUKU’s vision on the TED stage, where my talk has been viewed over 5 million times, and have presented globally at MIT, the World Government Summit, and London Design Week. Recognized by Architectural Digest and the Royal Society, my work reflects a commitment to redefining sustainable design and elevating bamboo as a material of the future. Growing up in Bali, I was inspired by the island’s artisans, whose skills transform dreams into reality. After earning my BFA from Tufts University, I worked in design in New York before returning to Bali to reimagine what architecture could be. I also co-founded Bamboo U, where we educate designers and change-makers on the revolutionary potential of bamboo. I believe design has the power to inspire change—and I invite you to join the movement.
