Francesco B••• is a Researcher and Assistant Professor at the University of Salerno (UNISA), specialising in deep learning and AI theory. He received a B.Sc. and M.Sc. cum laude in artificial and computational intelligence and a Ph.D. summa cum laude in 2021 with a dissertation on artificial intelligence applied to micro-robotic surgery. His research combines theoretical modelling with real-world applications across computational finance, medical imaging, generative composition, and computational biology. He has published more than thirty peer-reviewed articles—primarily in Q1 journals and international conferences—and collaborates with leading institutions including the University of Cambridge (UK), IRCAD (FR), and the University of Navarra (ES). He is currently a Research Fellow at the NAIR research center (ES). He is the Area Editor in Data Mining and Machine Learning for the International Journal of Computational Intelligence Systems and Academic Editor of PLOS ONE. As a composer and researcher, he collaborates with emerging and established artists and serves on the scientific committee of ISIA for artificial intelligence and art. In 2018, under the moniker Oberlunar, he released his first AI-driven music album, pioneering generative composition techniques. In 2020, he became the first Italian composer to extensively use AI-based generative composition, earning recognition from Last.FM as one of the world’s top 12 experimental piano artists. His most recent work in AI research came with Elegans-AI, the first neural network replicating the exact architecture of a living being’s nervous system, published in Neurocomputing.
