About
On the record
As a product of the Oakland Unified School District, Aaliyah D••• graduated from Oakland Technical High School in 2014 and graduated from the University of California, Berkeley with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Civil and Environmental Engineering in 2018. Aaliyah's interest in engineering began with a trip to Athens, Greece in 2009 when she was competing in track and field at the International Children's Games. Upon exploring the city, she found inspiration and motivation among the ancient buildings that remained standing after centuries of varying environmental factors. With this inspiration, she went on to enroll in the Engineering Academy offered by her high school where she learned skills such as manual technical drafting and various AutoCAD programs. In addition, further motivation was derived from her desire to explore her passion in the STEM field that students from underrepresented communities do not pursue as often due to lack of resources and support. With that inspiration and motivation, Aaliyah made sure to have a part in giving back to UC Berkeley's surrounding community by joining the Black Engineering and Science Students Association on Berkeley's campus. One of Aaliyah's goals is to travel around the world and share her experiences as a growing and developing Civil Engineer, especially with more underrepresented communities. Her goal is to explore methods and technologies to improve transportation around the world that would help bring society into a more renewable, preventative, and progressive era. She hopes that through traveling and understanding the human experience from people of different communities that she can provide the best technology and resources possible for life improvement.
