About

On the record

I am greatly interested in cross-cultural interactions and how to make the most out of them in terms of easing transitions and finding ways to gain useful perspectives. Much of my studies and focus has been on expanding that experience and finding ways to make it useful. I can communicate ideas and information effectively both in written and oral form as well as finding engaging ways to present that information. I enjoy interacting with others especially if I am able to learn about a new perspective I might not have considered before. While at Purdue I had several opportunities to travel overseas. First during a summer internship with The Hutong in Beijing, China. At The Hutong I helped with running corporate events and launching the first iteration of a new website. I also got first hand experience witnessing expatriates working in another culture and providing a service to other expatriates. While there I stayed at Beijing Normal University and took a Business Marketing class taught by a Purdue professor that accompanied the group. The second chance was a spot on a trip run by the Japanese Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology (MEXT). The trip was comprised of 200+ students from over 50 countries, 10 of with from the USA, who had to apply through their respective schools. The focus of the trip was on Japan's recovery from the Great East Earthquake and Tsunami that had devastated the region the year before. While there we participated in presentations and seminars from various departments about the recovery/early warning systems and Japan's international schools. A trip to Kamaishi, one of the cities hit by the tsunami, was also arranged were we talked to some of the survivors and listened to their stories.
