About
On the record
I am professor in landscape architecture and urban design at the division of Landscape Architecture and Planning at the University of Copenhagen. I explore how collaborative and community-based design approaches can contribute to the cultivation of both people and places. Through a practice-led research approach, I test collective on-site design-build methods for creating shared urban spaces and gathering places. The process brings out knowledge about how small scale design actions can fertilize local qualities and activate large scale long term strategic transformations. It also provides insight into how shared processes around site cultivation can be facilitated in ways that nurture both humans and land. Studied evolves around both methods and impacts for people, places and strategies looking into participants community connection, architectural spatial contributions, and impacts on local planning agendas. My approach has thus both a social, aesthetic and political agenda. My expertise includes setting up the right collaborative community design work environments. Like an alchemist, I combine the ingredients of people, skills, materials, sites and stakeholders that secure a successful process. It is like planting a seed and nourishing it until it operates on its own. Knowledge is decimated through writing, speaking and teaching and through on-site examples.
