Ubombo Sugar Limited is part of the ABF Sugar Group, a leading producer of sugar and downstream products. Situated adjacent to the Usuthu River in the south-east of the country, Ubombo produces approximately 250 tons of sugar annually. In addition, the company produces 165 Giga Watt Hours (GWH) of electricity each year, of which about 60 GWH is supplied to the Eswatini Electricity Company. Through its E1.3 billion expansion project that was commissioned in 2010/2011, Ubombo supported the development of the Lower Usuthu Smallholder Irrigation Projects (LUSIP), contributing significantly to the reduction of poverty in the Southern Lowveld of Eswatini. Small scale growers supply about 28% of cane to the Ubombo mill, mainly under the LUSIP project. Large scale growers supply 25%, 1.9% comes from medium scale growers and 42% from Ubombo (MCP). Ubombo is one of three sugar producers in Eswatini whose combined total sugar output of approximately 670 tons is marketed and distributed by the Eswatini Sugar Association (ESA). ABF Sugar has a 60% share in Ubombo Sugar Limited, with 40% of shares held by Tibiyo TakaNgwane.

Outreach in Swaziland began under Kudvumisa Trust in 2008 with CHIPS (Children’s HIV Intervention Programme in Swaziland). CHIPS began as an intervention in the Maphiveni and Vuvulane communities in eastern Swaziland for impoverished and isolated HIV affected children and their caregivers to access health care from Good Shepherd Hospital, 50km away. The Foundation (USA and Swaziland) was established to formalize the ongoing CHIPS program and put the infrastructure in place for the future vision of developing local clinics in these impoverished areas. Employing and training local Swazi’s to provide services into the communities gives us the double advantage of economic empowerment and also developing caring and compassionate staff familiar with the people and communities where they work.
