Background and Business Activities Air Zimbabwe is the national Airline for Zimbabwe whose main purpose is to provide Air travel solutions for the Zimbabwean community, the African continent and the world at large. The airline which is wholly owned by the Government of Zimbabwe was founded in 1967 and has been in existence over the years up to present time. Its roots can be traced back to 1946 when it was known as Central Africa Airways and operated as a joint airline for Nyasaland, Southern Rhodesia and Northern Rhodesia. The tripartite operations continued till 1967 when the joint operations ceased leading to the formation of Air Rhodesia. The airline operated as Air Rhodesia till 1980 when the nation attained its independence and the airline adopted the name Air Zimbabwe. The Airline operated as Air Zimbabwe Corporation until 1997 when Air Zimbabwe Pvt Ltd was created in terms of the Air Zimbabwe Corporation Repeal Act No.4 of 1998.The airline is therefore registered as Air Zimbabwe Pvt Ltd REG NO.10852/97 and conducts its business as such. The airline has been a member of the International Air Transport Association [IATA] and is also a serving member of the African Airlines Association [AFRAA]. Civil Aviation Authority Of Zimbabwe
The Civil Aviation Authority of Zimbabwe was established in by an Act of Parliament, the Civil Aviation Act [Chapter 13:16], and took over the functions of the former Department of Civil Aviation under the Ministry of Transport and Infrastructural Development. Pursuant to International Civil Aviation Organisation (ICAO) recommendations and best practices, the Authority was hived off Airport operations to a new entity through the Civil Aviation Amendment Act, 2018 [No. 10 of 2018]. In its new mandate, the Authority regulates the aviation industry and provides oversight of aviation safety and security, development of air transport and provision of air navigation services within Zimbabwe. The Civil Aviation Authority of Zimbabwe also advises the Government of Zimbabwe on all matters relating to domestic and international aviation. CAAZ is guided by the provisions of the convention on international civil aviation, related ICAO Standards and Recommended Practices (SARPs).

Guthrie Aviation
Guthrie Aviation was founded in 1995 and remains the oldest commercially operating Approved Flight Training School in Zimbabwe. It is also licensed to conduct Air Charter Operations and the team prides itself in maintaining a professional approach to all aspects of aviation in which they are involved. Many of the pilots trained at the school have gone on to fly for many of the world’s largest airlines such as Emirates and Cathay Pacific. Guthrie Aviation is headed up by Craig Guthrie and Kevin Leliard, both of whom have over 20 years of aviation experience. Craig started flying in 1988 and since then has accumulated more than 14500 hours of flight time of which more than hours have been as an instructor. Craig holds multiple licences including an American Airline Transport Pilots Licence and is a Zimbabwe Civil Aviation Approved Examiner and Test Pilot. Kevin started flying in 1987 and has accumulated more than 9500 flight hours. Kevin spent several years flying large cargo aircraft worldwide. He holds both an American and European Airline Transport Pilots Licence and covers the important areas of Safety and Quality Assurance for Guthrie Aviation. Kevin is also a Zimbabwe Civil Aviation Approved Examiner and Test Pilot. Both Kevin and Craig believe that safety is paramount in everything they do. Guthrie Aviation is registered and approved by the Ministry of Higher Education and the Civil Aviation Authority of Zimbabwe. The school offers full and part time training for the Private Pilots Licence (PPL) and the Commercial Pilots Licence (CPL), as well as instrument ratings, night ratings and type conversions (multi-engine and single engine). All the soft courses e.g. CRM, DGR, SEP are offered at the school. The school’s training material has been developed over a number of years and meets international standards. All ground training is conducted in dedicated air-conditioned facilities and the school has its own in house computerised testing facility.
