Socar Polymer
SOCAR Polymer was incorporated on July 16, 2013 to implement a project of international standing – the first of its kind and scale in the petrochemical industry of Azerbaijan over the past 40 years. In 2013-2019, the company successfully implemented the construction and commissioning of two polymer production facilities in the Sumgayit Industrial Park (SIP): the Polypropylene (PP) and High-Density Polyethylene (HDPE) plants. Designed with an annual capacity of 184 KTA of PP and 120 KTA of HDPE, the SOCAR Polymer plants operate using technologies licensed from LyondellBasell and INEOS. The company’s portfolio now comprises 50+ grades of PP and HDPE, including PP-RC and other high-demand polymers. Most of the company’s output is exported to about 20 markets across 3 continents via road, rail, and maritime routes. The company continues to make a significant contribution to the national GDP and remains one of Azerbaijan’s leading exporters in the non-oil sector.

Socar Methanol
Methanol plant is located in the region of Garadagh, 25th km of Salyan highway. The construction of the plant started 2008 and it was ready to commence the production of methanol in the year of 2013. The plant became the first production facility in Azerbaijan in the field of petrochemical industry at the date of its initial production. The methanol production in Azerbaijan is being executed under the management of “SOCAR Methanol” LLC, a subsidiary of SOCAR. The main raw material used in the production process of publicly owned methanol plant is natural gas and it is being supplied by SOCAR. The presence of SOCAR makes the plant operate more efficiently while staying environment-friendly also. 95% of produced methanol is being efficiently exported to European and Asian markets through the infrastructure of SOCAR Logistics. Western Europe, Black Sea, and Mediterranean Sea countries are among the methanol exported countries. Alongside with export, a local market sale is being improved continuously. The plant with the annual production capacity of 650 -700 thousand tons, created jobs for more than 350 employees whose average age is 36. Plant premises huge perspectives due to the high demand increase in methanol market as it is one the most widely used intermediate chemical. Based on the methanol production “SOCAR Methanol” LLC is conducting the research work on new products that will soon be introducing “Made in Azerbaijan” seal under the SOCAR brand to the end users.

Socar Carbamide Plant
SOCAR Carbamide plant project is implemented pursuant to the “State Programme on Reliable Food Supply of the Population in the Republic of Azerbaijan during 2008-2015” approved by the Decree of the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan number 3004 dated 25 August, 2008 and “State Programme for the Development of Industry for 2015-2020” approved by the Decree of the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan number 964 dated 26 December, 2014. Foundation of the Carbamide Plant was laid in 2011 by Mr. Ilham Aliyev, the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan. In the same year, international open tender was announced to select Engineering, Procurement and Construction (EPC) Contractor for the Project. Several companies with international reputation participated at the tender process and Samsung Engineering Co, Ltd.(South Korea) was announced the winner in 2012. EPC Contract signed with Samsung Engineering Co, Ltd. on 13 March, 2013. Haldor Topsoe of Denmark and Stamicarbon B.V of the Netherlands act as licensors of the Plant for ammonia and urea production, respectively. Construction works of the Plant started in February, 2014. In order to effectively implement and control the Project, Neste Jacobs Oy (Finland) was selected as a project management consultant (PMC) for the Project based on an international open tender. The PMC and third party inspection services contract was signed between SOCAR and Neste Jacobs Oy on 11 May 2015. The construction of the Plant is planned to be completed at the end of 2017 and the start-up is expected to take place in early 2018. The construction of the Plant with the area of 39.27 ha is being carried out in Sumgayit. Around 2500-3500 workers have been involved during the construction phase of the Plant and around 300-350 people is expected to be permanently employed during the operation phase. The Plant will consist of the ammonia, liquid and granulated urea production units. Natural gas will be the main feedstock for the production of nitrogen fertilizers. Annual gas consumption required for the production is expected to be 435 million m3 (1.32 m3/per day). It will produce 1200 tons of ammonia and tons of urea per day. In the meantime, it is planned that the urea product produced at the Plant (approx. 650-660 thousand tons per year) will satisfy domestic demand and the surplus of the product will be exported to Turkey by railways and into the world markets through the Black Sea ports. Iodico” specializes in production of resublimed iodine and antiseptics. The plant is located in the Neftchala region of Azerbaijan Republic, in close proximity to the Khillinsky and Neftchala’s iodine-bromine brine deposits. The main reserves of iodine in brines or caliche ore are in Japan, Chile, USA, Turkmenistan, Azerbaijan and Indonesia. Azerbaijan was estimated to have tons of iodine reserves, 4th largest after Japan, Chile, USA. Up to 80 wells operated by the company in the designated 583.5 ha fields. The 80 wells daily pump up to m3 of brine to annually produce 200 tons of iodine. The resublimed iodine with assay not less than 99.5% is exported mainly to China, India, EU, CIS and others.
