Soċjetà Santa Marija U Banda Re Ġorġ V, Mqabba
During the first years of the 1900s the villagers of Mqabba felt the need to form a group that will be responsible of the festivities taking place on the 15th of August for the feast of the Assumption of Saint Mary. The driven attitude that the founders of the Society of Saint Mary and King George V Band took was carried on throughout the years by improving standards and making this feast in a rural village prominent among its peers. To keep this society vital, during the year social activities are organized among the members of the same Society. Some of these activities include dinners, traditional Maltese nights, exhibitions, cultural visits, sports activities and social gatherings. These activities and others alike are commissioned by the central committee of the Society or by one of the following sub committees which include the women's section, the youth's section, the fireworks group, decorations section, web commission, band commission and also the junior club. One of the main roles of the Society of Saint Mary and King George V Band is to provide free-of-charge music studies tuition and to provide a cheerful atmosphere along the Feast days through performances of its marching band. King George V Band knows its beginning as Orchestra Santa Marija, which was later transformed into a band in the year 1946.
