Thanda
How do we change the world? We start on the ground. Like we did almost two decades ago. What began as after-school programmes in empty classrooms in rural KwaZulu-Natal has grown into a multi-layered mission supporting individuals from birth through adulthood. Thanda is an established nonprofit in Mtwalume, rural KwaZulu-Natal, creating meaningful opportunities through education, youth development, and food security. We build resilience and unlock potential for lasting change. Our work? Strengthening families, nurturing children, and building resilient, food-secure neighbourhoods. We directly support more than 2,200 individuals and 600 households in the community. Our work begins in early childhood, helping children thrive through storybook-based learning and hands-on teacher support. It continues through adolescence and into adulthood, with creative learning that builds critical thinking, life skills, and active citizenship. Our reach extends even further, indirectly benefiting over community members. This includes improving access to potable water, not our primary focus, but an essential human right and a vital element in thriving neighbourhoods. Water grows food, curbs illness, and strengthens communities as they work together for cohesive, resilient futures. We support parents and caregivers. We train and employ local youth. We help children with disabilities participate and belong. We grow backyard gardens and smallholder farms. We teach people how to feed themselves and their neighbours. One child, one household, one neighbourhood at a time. Because change starts small: at home, in classrooms, and in fields, with thoughtful, committed people. And if you’ve read this far, here’s how we truly feel about change… "Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful, committed citizens can change the world; indeed, it's the only thing that ever has." – Margaret Mead

Greater Together Foundation
The Greater Together Foundation (GTF) was formed in response to the civil unrest that erupted in KwaZulu-Natal and other parts of South Africa in July 2021. Communities came to the forefront as a source of stability against lawlessness and as an essential driver of the rapid clean-up and aid efforts. However, there were tragic exceptions where an uncoordinated community response was harmful to social cohesion and the rule of law. Firstly, we believe that a "community" is defined as a group of people living in an area under the same government. In addition,"community" can refer to a social group or class having common interests. Schools, businesses, public and private organizations, religious and social groups are vital elements of the community. However, the lack of general community safety, incredibly high rates of crime, and the socioeconomic issues that underpin lawlessness are a collective concern for all community members, from the wealthiest to the poorest and most vulnerable groups. Tackling the unmet expectations and scarcity of resources within a community and building partnerships across diverse groups is key to improving the quality of life for all and ensuring a safer and more prosperous community. Therefore, our mandate is to develop a replicable model for safer and healthier communities that can be shared to drive positive change. We cannot change the past, but we can shape the future by working together. We will promote social cohesion and engage and collaborate with communities in solving the aforementioned problems within their areas.

The 5am Club Za
The 5am Club is a fitness community based in Bloubergstrand (Cape Town) and Johannesburg (Lone Hill). It was founded in 2021 by Joshua Bransgrove in response to the isolation induced by COVID-19. Joshua Bransgrove saw that there was a lack of community and personal connection in the Bloubergstrand area. He wanted to motivate his friends and the people around him in a way that hadn’t been done before. Ironically, it began by running with his friends in Bloubergstrand at 5 AM (hence our name). Thereafter as the community grew, we hosted different activities at different times. The clubs hosted under “The 5am Club” include- Running / Walking Club (runs along the beach promenade five times a week)- Padel Club (weekly games at Cape Town courts)- Success Club (webinars educating people on the principles behind success) Each of these clubs have their own schedules, and Whatsapp groups to post updates and engage with community members. You can join by popping us a message on Facebook or Instagram Additionally, we also have a coaching division to help you prepare for big milestones, such as Running Races and Padel Events. These services have allowed our community to be empowered to achieve more, shifted their mindset on what they think is possible, and even allowed them to win prizes.
