Small Cat Advocacy And Research Scar
Established in 2017, Small Cat Advocacy and Research (SCAR) is a non-profit organisation dedicated towards the protection of Sri Lanka’s lesser understood small wild cats, and small mammals. Our focus is to gain a better understanding of the three species through conservation and research, and use the knowledge gained to conserve the species throughout the island by working closely with communities, stakeholders and government authorities. Our awareness campaigns on the three small wild cats will ensure wider reach and educate the general public that these lesser-known species are just as important as their larger cousin (i.e. the Sri Lankan leopard).

Guardians Of The Ocean Sri Lanka
Guardians of the Ocean is a youth-led marine conservation initiative founded by Niven Ganegama in early 2021. The program is dedicated to educating younger generations in fishing communities across Sri Lanka about ocean conservation through interactive learning experiences. Operating under Youth Force Sri Lanka, an affiliate of the Sarvodaya Shramadana Movement, the project aims to foster environmental awareness and sustainable practices among children. Guardians of the Ocean has gained recognition for its hands-on approach, featuring engaging activities focused on; Marine Life: Understanding sea turtles, manta rays, whale sharks, and dolphins, Coral Reefs: Identifying threats to corals and their importance in marine ecosystems, Climate Change: Exploring its impact on the ocean and coastal communities, Fishing Techniques: Raising awareness about harmful fishing practices and sustainable alternatives. The project has been well-received in local communities and has also been adopted by organizations like The Sri Lanka Sub Aqua Club as their conservation program. In August 2024, a major event in Mihiripanna, Unawatuna brought together 65 children from fishing villages to discuss the climate crisis and the dangers of plastic pollution. With growing popularity, Guardians of the Ocean continues to expand its reach, empowering young ocean advocates and working towards a future where coastal communities take an active role in protecting marine ecosystems.
