Projects that fall under this category includes the COSIMA spectrometer on ESA’s ROSETTA mission, which analyzed the chemical composition and the size of the dust particles from the comet Churyumov-Gerasimenko. Another example in this category was the CIDA instrument for the NASA STARDUST mission, sampling interplanetary dust. Our LAD instruments for the US TWINS missions took Lyman-α measurements of the Earth’s corona, and our AC current source provides the electrical stimulus for the PK4HV experiment on the ISS, which observes the formation of plasma chrystals in the absence of the gravitational force. We have also worked on projects such as the ExoMars Rover prototype and the micro-rover NANOKHOD for ESA’s technology and research programme. ICARUS is a project to follow the movements of animals, especially birds across the globe with tiny transmitters. German Institute For Defence And Strategic Studies

Die Welt ist im Umbruch und die Rahmenbedingungen für Sicherheitspolitik verändern sich rasant. Dies stellt die Bundeswehr wie auch die Bundesregierung vor neue strategische Herausforderungen. Um fundierte, wissenschaftlich basierte Antworten auf diese Herausforderungen geben zu können, wurde im Sommer 2018 das German Institute for Defence and Strategic Studies (GIDS) gegründet. Es ist eine Kooperation der Führungsakademie der Bundeswehr und der Helmut-Schmidt-Universität / Universität der Bundeswehr Hamburg. Das GIDS untersucht und erforscht strategische Fragestellungen aus sicherheits- und verteidigungspolitischer Perspektive. Damit schafft es eine Basis für die Beratung der Entscheidungsträger in Bundeswehr und Bundesregierung. Das GIDS konzentriert sich auf Forschungsfragen, die derzeit bei keinem anderen sicherheitspolitischen Thinktank im Zentrum des Interesses stehen. Dabei kann das Institut auf die herausragende Expertise beider Bildungseinrichtungen, Universität und Führungsakademie, zurückgreifen. Dies erlaubt interdisziplinäre und in ihrer methodischen Breite einzigartige Forschung und aus dieser resultierend bedarfsorientierte Beratung.
