Weskate Mongu
We are a community in Mongu, Zambia. Our founder is Johnny Kalenga started WeSkate Mongu in 2015. WeSkate Mongu was started as a means to stop children going down the wrong path in Mongu. In Mongu there is a lack of recreational activities for the children to take part in. We Skate Mongu has been teaching children how to skateboard. There was around to 10 - 15 kids in the beginning but we only had board. The children took initiative and started.to create their own boards from planks and suitcase wheels to facilitate their new found love for skateboarding. With help from Braille Skateboarding bringing recognition to Mongu, we were able to get boards for the children in 2020 and the number of children that we would teach kept on rising. Skate World Better and Wonders Around the World came to Mongu to build the first Skate Park in Zambia! The children were very excited and most importantly it gave them somewhere to be other than dangerous places. Currently, we.have around 100 children who are willing to come to the skatepark and learn how to skateboard, but we only have one board right now that works. All our other boards are run down and out of order. We need resources and equipment to help the children.
