Enpot
EnPot is an innovative new deep modulation technology that fundamentally changes the way aluminium smelters use energy. Ultimately, the technology reinvents smelters into virtual batteries capable of providing valuable storage and back-up power to the world's electricity grids in times of high energy demand or lower than normal generation. This ensures consistency of supply when the sun isn’t shining, or wind isn’t blowing at a lower cost than other storage options. It is also the only available option to flex the production of aluminium in this way. The end product is high-purity, green aluminium from smelters reinvented as green energy providers. “TRIMET’s trials of the EnPot technology indicate that by being able to dynamically increase or decrease our energy use by 25%, TRIMET could in fact become the energy bridge buffering supply and demand in Germany,” says Dr. Martin Iffert, former CEO of TRIMET Aluminium SE. The technology can be economically retrofitted to over 90% of the smelters in the world, and cost savings can be between US$10-20m per annum for a 320-pot smelter, giving a return-on-investment time frame of between 0.7 years and 1.45 years.#renewableenergy #aluminium #cleanenergy #DSR
