Belize Audubon Society
Founded in 1969, the Belize Audubon Society is a non-governmental, membership-based organization dedicated to the sustainable management of Belize's resources. We are involved in enhancing the development of Belize’s natural capital through protected areas management, environmental education, advocacy, community development, and research programs. To many, the name Audubon is synonymous with birds. Additionally, Belize Audubon’s conservation efforts focus on other wildlife and their habitats for the benefit of both humanity and the earth’s biological diversity. BAS currently co-manages seven (7) of Belize's Protected Areas, including Blue Hole Natural Monument, Half Moon Caye Natural Monument, St. Herman's Blue Hole National Park, Cockscomb Basin Wildlife Sanctuary, Crooked Tree Wildlife Sanctuary, Gunanacaste National Park, and Victoria Peak Natural Monument. If you're not already a member of the Belize Audubon Society, we invite you to join us today!

Belize Women's Seaweed Farmers Association
The Belize Women’s Seaweed Farmers Association (BWSFA) was formed in July of 2019 and consists of 21 members aiming to grow the nascent seaweed industry in Placencia, Belize through new seaweed farming operations and the creation of value-added products made from locally grown seaweed. The initial value-added product ideas of the association includes seaweed gel and seaweed powder. Gel, which is made from soaking or boiling down dried seaweed, is most commonly used as a thickener in drinks and shakes throughout Belize, with an abundance of other potential uses. Powder, made from finely ground dried seaweed, can be used in cooking (soups, smoothies, etc) or as an inclusion in spa products, among other creative possibilities. Powder retains more nutrients and has a longer shelf life than gel given that it is never boiled or heated in the process. Efforts can be divided across the production of multiple value-added products, and these two products, in particular, can serve as the base for secondary value-added products.

University Of Belize Environmental Research Institute
The University of Belize Environmental Research Institute (UB ERI), inaugurated in January 2010, was created primarily to address the large gap in local capacity for research and monitoring that exists within Belize. Belize has a wealth of natural resources, including the longest barrier reef in the Western Hemisphere, which supports the country's most important industries, including tourism and agriculture. Recognizing this, the work of the Institute is focused on producing results that are directly relevant and applicable to the sustainable management of Belize's natural resources and building local capacity for this. At a finer but equally important scale for Belize's development, the Institute was created as a semi–autonomous department of the University of Belize (UB), with transparent and efficient management of projects at its core, in order to provide a much needed mechanism for research within the University.

Protected Areas Conservation Trust
In 1996, Belize was considered a pioneer with the passing of the PACT Act. Today, the protected areas landscape continues to take shape and expand. Currently there are 103 protected areas that form a vast national protected areas system (NPAS), with categories that encompass forest reserves, nature reserves, national parks, marine reserves, private reserves, wildlife sanctuaries, natural monuments, bird sanctuaries, spawning aggregation reserves and archaeological reserves. In the twenty years since the Protected Areas Conservation Trust was established, PACT has been accredited national implementing entity (NIE) status for the Adaptation Fund as well as granted a fiduciary role for such agencies as the World Bank, the Meso-American Reef Fund (MAR Fund), the Global Environment Facility (GEF) and the Belize Nature Conservation Fund (BNCF). In October 2015, the amended PACT legislation was passed and like the PACT Act before it, it represents a bold step in the direction of actualizing and accommodating the needs of the country’s protected areas system.
