MISSION 'Protecting our Caribbean Sea and Sustaining our Future' Promoting regional co-operation for the protection and sustainable development of the marine environment of the Wider Caribbean Region. DESCRIPTION The United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) established the Caribbean Environment Programme (CEP) in 1981 as one of its administered Regional Seas Programmes. This was in recognition of the importance and value of the Wider Caribbean Region’s fragile and vulnerable coastal and marine ecosystems including endemic plants and animals. The CEP brings together the 38 Member States and Territories of the Wider Caribbean Region by promoting regional co-operation for the protection and sustainable development of their coastal and marine environmental resources. The CEP also formed the basis for the development and adoption of the Cartagena Convention as the first and only regionally binding treaty of its kind in 1986. This legal agreement is supported by three technical Protocols on Oil Spills, Marine Biodiversity (Specially Protected Areas and Wildlife – SPAW) and Pollution (Land Based Sources of Marine Pollution – LBS). The Caribbean Risk and Disaster Management Youth Platform (#CARIDIMA) is a Caribbean youth-led #DRR initiative conceived and partially supported by @UNESCO, established since April 2021 by the UNESCO Cluster Office for the Caribbean and by the UNESCO Office in Haiti. It is open to partnerships with all relevant national, regional, international, intergovernmental and global stakeholders, as it aims to play a leading role for #DRR in the Caribbean region, particularly for the Caribbean Small Island Developing States (#CaribbeanSIDS).

The Montego Bay Marine Park Trust is a non-profit, Environmental Non-Governmental Agency (ENGO) and registered Jamaican Charity. The Trust was formed in 1992 to protect the coastal ecosystem of Jamaica's tourism capital - Montego Bay, and is tasked with managing the Montego Bay Marine Park (a 15 square kilometer Marine Protected Area) and two Special Fisheries Conservation Areas (fish sanctuaries). Recycling Partners Of Jamaica

Recycling Partners of Jamaica is a non-profit organization formed as a result of a private-public sector partnership to build and support national awareness of the need to recycle. And is the designated national recycling entity by the Government of Jamaica. The organization seeks to support the existing recycling industry, increase employment and improve the environmental footprint of local businesses and individuals by engaging in an initiative branded Recycle Now Jamaica. The primary objective is to boost the recovery of PET bottles by 35% of the amount placed on the market by the 3rd year of operations. This is an estimated recovery of 4,690 tonnes of PET material. The partners are the Government of Jamaica and the following private sector firms: • Wisynco Ltd. • Pepsi Jamaica Ltd. • Grace Kennedy Foods and Services Ltd. • Jamaica Beverages Ltd. • Lasco Manufacturing Ltd. • SEPROD Ltd. • Trade Winds Citrus Ltd. The programme will establish satellite depots in strategic locations around the island to facilitate collection. These depots will receive the reclaimed PET bottles and will bulk and bale them so as to increase efficiencies in handling, storage and transportation. The collectors will be paid on a weight basis. PET bottles purchased from collectors will be weighed, baled and shipped overseas for further processing. Recycling Partners of Jamaica is seeking to work with NGOs, Foundations and other entities with a track record for recycling and environmental management. It is seeking to access groups and individuals who can boost the recovery rate of the PET bottles throughout the island.
