Die bilateralen Beziehungen zwischen der Schweiz und Österreich reichen bis ins Jahr 1678 zurück, als die Habsburger erstmals einen Gesandten in die Schweiz entsandten. Die österreichische diplomatische Vertretung in der Schweiz befindet sich seit 1849 in Bern, und 1957 wurde die österreichische Gesandtschaft zur Botschaft erhoben, immer noch in Bern.
