CELA Belize The Center for Engaged Learning Abroad, CELA. Belize, was born in 2010 when a group of friends and co-workers decided Belize had so much to offer students and professionals in unique learning experiences that we formed a company to assist those who wanted to visit, study, and learn about Belize. Coming up with a name which expressed what we wanted do was actually much harder than we thought. We wanted to convey our educational purpose with a focus on sustainability. We love sharing the wonders of Belize while providing educational services to students here. We are thrilled to see the sense of awe when students experience new knowledge first hand through their field work and community service. Belize challenges students to move outside their comfort zone. Our goal is serve the educational and travel needs of organizations or individuals wishing to study in Belize. Creating customized, dynamic, innovative programs and learning experiences for clients is the driving force of our company. Professionally delivered, academically challenging and sustainable in the process, our services will enhance our client’s understanding of Belize, its biodiversity, our many cultures and fascinating history.

Toucan Education Programs
Toucan Education Programs is an international education abroad program administrator offering short-term experiential learning experiences in the country of Belize, which includes service-learning, tailored academic internships and faculty-led, and summer intensive field programs. As a social enterprise, Toucan’s educational programs are designed and managed to consistently deliver on its four core values and THE SLE FACTOR™, which is a promise that holds us accountable to offer programs with intentional academic and intercultural learning outcomes, programs that demonstrate ethical and responsible management and foster reciprocity across its stakeholders while promoting host country exploration that is culturally and environmentally responsible. Toucan Education Programs commits 5% of its profits to its High School Scholarship program, which supports Belizean high school students with high financial need. An equal commitment is made to reforestation in Belize. Toucan offers students, faculty, and higher education institutions an opportunity to offset their air travel carbon footprint through its Plant A Tree Reforestation Program. Toucan launched its e-learning professional development arm known as The Sojourn Learning Institute (SLI) in 2020. SLI offers practical and implementable professional development for both faculty and education abroad professionals.

Belize TREC is an organization dedicated to research, education and conservation. We are a school that provides visiting professors and their students with all the components necessary for conducting university level courses. Belize Tropical Research and Education Center is in its 23rd year of advancing coral reef education and research. We work with visiting researchers, foreign and local undergraduates, graduate students, and high school students with marine biology interests. We offer a large facility that can accommodate more than 50 students for room, board and course work. Our staff includes Ph.D. marine biologists, SCUBA instructors, a registered nurse, licensed captains and tour guides.
