The education of women in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia has received a great deal of attention and this has allowed Saudi women to make definite strides towards achieving their ambitions and unveiling their uniqueness in different fields. The Saudi woman has emerged, not only at the local level, but at the international level as well. We see examples of Saudi women in the fields of culture and specialized research, examples who are respected and acknowledged in international arenas and in the various fields of science, proving their success and their worthiness that rivals that of their peers in other advanced countries. PNU is one of the outcomes of the attention given to the higher education of women. This attention started early, when the General Presidency for the Education of Girls established the first college for women in 1390 AH, corresponding to 1970 CE. The inauguration of more colleges followed, reaching 102, ranging from university colleges to intermediary colleges and community colleges. These were distributed over 72 Saudi cities and included students. In Riyadh alone there are six colleges; namely the College of Education for Liberal Arts Disciplines, the College of Education for Scientific Disciplines, the College of Education for the Development of Teachers, the College of Social Services, the College of Home Economics and the College of Fine Arts. In 1427 AH, a royal order was issued for the establishment of the first university for women in Riyadh, under the supervision of the Ministry of Higher Education. This included the six colleges located in Riyadh, in addition to a number of new colleges established for the purpose of women's education and development in the Kingdom. Yanbu Industrial College
Yanbu Industrial College (YIC) in Yanbu Al-Sinaiyah is a 25-minute drive from the Prince Abdul Mohsin Bin Abdul Aziz Airport, the city’s international airport. The College is located about 350KM north of Jeddah on the coast of the Red Sea, one of the main waterways that connects Saudi Arabia, the world’s leading oil exporter, to Europe and Africa. To take advantage of Yanbu’s strategic geographical location and transform it into a modern industrial city, the Kingdom formed the Royal Commission of Jubail and Yanbu in 1975. Soon the city became the nation’s western terminus of pipelines to transport natural gas and crude oil to the world market. Realizing the increasing need to develop Saudi human resources with high technical education to manage this fast growing economy, the Royal Commission established the Yanbu Industrial College in 1989. Currently, Yanbu is host to around 20 heavy hydro-carbon, petrochemical and mineral industries. The Saudi workforce educated at YIC has helped a great deal in taking the initial investments from industrial developers in the city to a current all time high of more than 14 billion dollars. In a matter of a couple of decades, the College has become one of the major sources of manpower for the extensive local economy, propelling Yanbu’s industrial sector to becoming a major contributor to the nation’s economy. YIC maintains strong relationships with local industry and the professions. At the top of our organization chart is the Industry Advisory Council, comprised of economic powerhouses representing the broad spectrum of industries integral to Yanbu Industrial City. The Council helps in evaluating and developing our academic programs, bringing our curricula in line with the needs of the industry. As a result, there is a great demand for our graduates in the market and the College maintains a consistently high student placement rate. The YIC campus is home to Chemical Engineering Technology, Electrical Power Enginee.
