Taiwan is starting to see the high value of a Kainan education as our graduates enter the workforce, and we are proud to have blossomed into a fully accredited university with limitless prospects. Once a small technical school, today we boast faculty and visiting students from all over the world, an office for international programs, and relationships with prestigious schools abroad, as well as a vast and beautiful campus. David's English Center
David’s English Center is one of Taiwan’s largest and most respected private adult English instruction centers, with 15 schools island-wide. It is our goal to provide a professional, stimulating environment for adult students of English as a foreign language. David’s English Center takes its position as one of Taiwan’s leading adult ESL schools as a challenge to constantly progress and improve our level of service. Our small class sizes and flexible student-oriented curriculum allow our students’ abilities to grow in the areas most needed. Our experienced teachers understand that only through working with, not lecturing to, our students can they achieve their goals in English study. David’s is committed to providing a professional, stimulating and challenging environment for adult students of English as a foreign language. This is our focus, and results are our promise. In the late 1980’s, as Taiwan’s economy was booming, the need for English language instruction grew exponentially. Private kindergartens and cram schools began popping up in cities and towns across the island. David’s English Center was founded in 1987 on the belief that the over-saturation of children’s schools left many adults feeling they were being left out of the equation. An interested group of like-minded teachers felt they knew how to bridge this gap. As with all new businesses, success wasn’t easy, but in time, students from around Taiwan began to find in David’s a comfortable environment to pursue their English studies. After some hard work and fine-tuning, David’s had forged a name for itself among the most respected and successful adult English centers in the country. David’s currently employs around 100 foreign teachers and more than 80 Taiwanese teachers and staff. As David’s approaches its thirtieth anniversary, we invite you to contact us to find out more about David’s.

Phonemica
Phonemica is a project to preserve spoken stories in local vernaculars. We believe that each language and dialect is a priceless cultural treasure embedding history, social customs - the knowledge of a people. Phonemica began as an exploration of Chinese, the singular language family behind which is hidden dozens or even hundreds of mutually unintelligible languages, both in greater China and in Chinese-speaking communities around the world. In April 2013 the site was launched with the goal of collecting stories from every village and every neighborhood where Chinese is spoken, both in China and abroad. That goal today remains the same. But since April 2014, the scope has expanded to allow non-Sinitic languages. Clearly, China is not just Chinese, and Chinese is not just in China. The new website infrastructure makes it possible to include recordings from mainland China minority group languages, Taiwanese indigenous languages, and so on - in theory any language group. In the future we will be working with specialists in other languages to create localized versions for other language groups.

The Affiliated Senior High School Of National Taiwan Normal University
The rich history of HSNU can be traced back to its founding in 1937. The school was founded during the time of authoritarianism, when governmental suppression and forced subservience dominated the society. The second dean of HSNU, Hui Huang, spearheaded education values and created an environment at HSNU where both teachers and students were allowed to question, explore, and innovate. His famously quoted motto, “We develop talents, not slaves,” set an early tone of the styles and spirits of HSNU that has been followed there ever since. Perhaps in no other high school in Taiwan is the enthusiasm of a student body better captured than at HSNU. The students are famously described as those who “work hard and play hard,” which is made possible by a liberal environment where students are encouraged to explore their imaginations and put them into practice. The three major student associations, the Student Association, the Club Association, and the Senior Association, work closely with more than 50 student clubs, taking the lead to organize events like proms, the orientation evening shows, the school anniversary, Student Association presidential elections, and commencement ceremonies, with the faculty playing a supporting role. These experiences mark unforgettable memories for students, who not only gain hands-on experiences but also learn to think both critically and independently. In a society where students are expected to be followers, HSNU cultivates leaders, scientists and artists. This is why the HSNU alumni are visible around the world in all areas across the entire social spectrum. However, it rarely takes more than a split second to recognize them as both alumni and current students are closely bonded by common memories that have left valuable and indelible marks on their high school lives.
