Clarke International University (CIU) formerly, International Health Sciences University (IHSU) in Uganda is a University that is licensed by the Uganda National Council for Higher Education (NCHE [UI.PL 013]). CIU is a non-residential university offering health sciences and business courses and grooms students to become tomorrow's leaders nationally and internationally. CIU is currently situated on the third floor at International Hospital Kampala (IHK) in Namuwongo. The first school, the School of Nursing, was established in 2005 with 16 diploma students. Uganda Martyrs University
Uganda Martyrs University (UMU) is a faith-based private University owned by the Episcopal Conference of the Catholic Bishops of Uganda. UMU acknowledges the late Archbishop Kiwanuka as the Father of Catholic higher education in Uganda. When he first conceived the idea in the 1940’s, circumstances did not allow establishing a University at that time. However, this proposal was renewed during the 1980’s, and was endorsed by the Uganda Episcopal Conference in 1989. Uganda Martyrs University was officially launched in 1993 by His Excellency Yoweri Kaguta Museveni President of the Republic of Uganda. It received its civil Charter on 2nd April 2005. Uganda Martyrs University is located along the Equator at Nkozi, 80 km west of Kampala, the capital city of Uganda. Opened in October 1993 with 84 students and two academic departments, UMU currently has 7 Faculties, 1 Institute, 3 Schools, 3 Directorates; and about students, of whom about 1,500 are full-time residents on campus. The remaining 2,500 and participate in distance learning and part-time programmes respectively at the University campuses in Kabale, Kampala, Masaka, Mbale and Lira.

The University opened its gates in 2002 as a private Community Institution with forty-two (42) students and presently has a student enrolment of about students: coming from all parts of Uganda, and the neighboring countries of Kenya, Tanzania - Zanzibar, Rwanda, Burundi, Congo (DRC) and South Sudan. Kabale University registered many achievements, culminating in the grant of a Charter - Charter Certificate No. UI.CH.008 dated 29th September 2014. The Charter was assented to by the President of the Republic of Uganda on 25th October 2015. Kabale University is therefore a unique Institution in Uganda, enjoying the status of being the first Institution of its kind to metamorphose from private to public – and having been granted a Charter – the last stage of accreditation by the Uganda National Council for Higher Education. Kabale University has great potential. It is now at a stage where it is clear that many opportunities are at hand, having laid a strong foundation and in view of the expected benefits arising from its new legal status (a public and chartered institution). Uganda Pentecostal University
The Uganda Pentecostal University (UPU) was founded by Prof. John Ntambirweki in February 2001 as a private tertiary education institution, the Grotius School of Law Professional Studies. It commenced its operations in 2001, admitting its first students in law at its then campus in Mengo, Kampala. Initially, UPU operated as an independent institution affiliated to Busoga University but having separate management. The institution continued to operate as such until July 2004, when the National Council for Higher Education (NCHE) directed it to register as a separate institution. This directive was based on the fact that Busoga University was a young University with provisionally licensed institution could not affiliate another institution nor nurture it optimally. After a long period of preparation and negotiations, the school was renamed Uganda Pentecostal University and registered with the Registry of Companies as a company limited by guarantee. In September 2005, the University obtained a provisional license to operate as a University. The University became one of the few recognized by the Uganda Law Council to teach approved law courses. Today, UPU has five faculties: Law, Arts and Social Sciences, Information Technology, Business Administration and Journalism & Communication. UPU has its main campus situated at Muchwa in Fort Portal Municipality 300km west of Kampala, the former Capital of the Western Uganda Province. The University also operates liaison Centre in Wakaliga, Rubaga Division Kampala.

ARU was founded by Uganda Rural Development and Training Programme (URDT) with the focus of providing women with the necessary knowledge, skills and experience to be effective change agents. It applies theoretical learning, innovative instruction and field practice to enable graduates to create conditions for people to improve their lives and communities. ARU education model is 60% theory and 40% practical where students live and work with communities in order to cause Rural Transformation. It currently offers two courses: Bachelor of Rural Development(BRD) and Bachelor of Science in Sustainable Agriculture (BSSA). All these take Three years of class room study, and one year of research and internship. The graduates of ARU are employed by URDT as Epicenter managers to catalyze rural transformation in different sub counties in greater Kibaale and many other districts in Uganda by creating conditions for people to know that they are key to their own development using the visionary Approach.

Makerere University hosts the first Rotary Peace Center on the African Continent. It is the seventh Rotary Peace Center in the world. The Makerere University Rotary Peace Center offers a Post Graduate Diploma in Peacebuilding, Conflict Transformation, and Development hosted by the Makerere University Peace and Conflict Studies Program (PCS). Is the professional development certificate program right for me? The year-long blended-learning post-graduate program emphasizes issues and solutions that are of particular relevance throughout the African continent, and hands-on experience will complement coursework that addresses human rights, governance, and media; the role of climate change; refugee migration, and community cohesion. The ideal candidate is a proven peace and development leader with at least five years of relevant work experience. Candidates need to come to the program with a social change initiative to promote peace and development within the program region or their community and have a clear vision of how the fellowship experience and network will help advance their peace work and increase their impact. After the program, candidates should be willing to share their own work and experience, stay in touch with peace fellows in the region, and maintain strong connections with Rotarians.
