Texada Island Non-Profit Seniors Housing Society Tinshs
Texada is a remote, sparsely populated island community with a rich history of mining and logging industries, blended with coastal BC beauty. The island’s residents are predominantly robust seniors while the housing stock is rural, spread apart and not senior-friendly. Many seniors are faced with the challenge of aging in demanding rural conditions. Currently, there are no alternative housing options for seniors whose homes are not safe, accessible or adaptable. Incorporated in 2019, Texada Island non-Profit Seniors Housing Society (TINSHS) is a registered charity directed by a volunteer working Board of Texada Island residents. Our mission is to create 40 units of affordable age-friendly housing for Texada seniors, enabling them to age close to family, friends and community. Our vision for an affordable age-friendly housing development includes a cluster of accessible, adaptable, eco-friendly modules situated on a partially forested parcel close to amenities and services. We envision a development that is harmoniously integrated into the natural forest setting, in alignment with Texada’s rural character, and includes a communal building, gardens, trails and outdoor gathering spaces. TINSHS is currently seeking support to purchase land for our affordable and environmentally sustainable seniors housing project. We are grateful for any donations made towards this goal and happy to discuss opportunities for partnership, publicity and recognition for our funders and sponsors.

Mosquito Creek Foundation
The Mosquito Creek Foundation is a management body that incorporated in 1995; it is comprised of 6 board members and approximately 40 staff (plus Alberta Health Services staffing). The Foundation is a non-profit organization that is dedicated to safe, secure housing of seniors located in the communities of Nanton and Stavely in the MD of Willow Creek, in southern Alberta. Mosquito Creek Foundation owns and operates the Silver Willow Lodge in Nanton which was originally built in 1977. In 1984 the Foundation assumed management of Seniors Self Contained Housing at Kilmorie Place and Oxley Manor in 1995; both buildings are registered under the Alberta Housing Act. An addition to the Silver Willow Lodge was completed in May 2009 and is classed as a designated supportive living facility (DSL) regulated by Alberta Health Services. This facility boasts nice one bedroom units and 21 studio rooms, bringing the total to 30 rooms and the building as a whole to 81 units.
