The Warsaw House Foundation
For the fourth year in a row, Poland was ranked the worst country in the EU for LGBTQ+ rights and safety. We lead efforts to learn about and serve LGBTQ+ young people (regardless of origin), residing in Poland in the context of a conservative government, the Ukrainian diaspora, and the neighboring reactionary governments of Belarus and Russia. A large, expanding, and diverse group of young people are in need of refuge and support. An estimated 10% of young people (18-29) identify as LGBTQ+, an identity that often brings rejection and exclusion from family and religious establishments, driving homelessness and hopelessness. LGBTQ+ youth are faced with scarcities of food and safe living arrangements, while also being at risk of being forced into transactional sex or actively trafficked, experience suicidal ideation, and are common victims of Gender Based Violence. We serve LGBTQ+ youth while simultaneously learning about their particular needs.
