Les Amis
Les Amis is a Jersey-based charity offering care and support in a variety of residential settings to people with learning disabilities and/or associated conditions. Our aim is to deliver a spectrum of services as diverse as the needs and requirements of our residents and service users, and to provide help, assistance and guidance to parents and carers, and the families of all those we’re supporting. In addition to our residential and respite care, we also run an outreach programme and provide a number of day services. Currently, our residential accommodation comprises 16 properties, from one-bedroom flats to six-bedroomed houses, which are home to up to 58 residents at any one time. The primary aim of this residential service is to provide a safe, secure and supportive environment where residents are encouraged to express themselves and make decisions about their lives as well as contributing to the day-to-day running of their home. We support all ages and abilities, from 18 years to 70+, whether they are living with a degree of independence or require round-the-clock care. Les Amis also provides respite care for the parents and carers of people with learning disabilities, as well as an outreach service for people with a high degree of self-reliance who may need additional support to acquire the necessary life skills to become fully independent. It is important to understand that, in many circumstances, people with learning disabilities can achieve their goals – from living independently, to undertaking a wide range of activities – and we provide them with the appropriate assistance and care to help them realize these ambitions. At Les Amis, we fundamentally believe that disability does not mean inability. More recently, we have introduced a new day service to allow residents and service users to participate in relevant and meaningful activity, and to give them an opportunity to socialize, whilst also providing temporary respite for carers.

Parent Carer Forum Jersey
Parent Carer Forum Jersey is an independent group developed with and for parents and carers of children and young people from birth to the age of 25 with special needs. We aim to help plan and improve services used by those families and provide support by building a community to share information and experiences. We facilitate two-way communication between parents/carers and the providers of services used by children and young people with special needs. We are supported by the States of Jersey Departments of Social Security, Health & Social Services, Education, Housing and Adult Services. The forum provides feedback and constructively challenges current services, as well as inputting into decision making and planning for future service provision. The management committee consists of parents and carers who have volunteered their time to represent the needs of young people - all who have personal experience of special needs. We work strategically with a Partnership Group which includes representatives from the States of Jersey departments that we work with. We therefore have a direct link to service providers to support and influence policy change. If you need support or want to find out more about how you can be involved visit our website.

Family Mediation Jersey
Family Mediation Jersey (FMJ) is a registered charity that provides mediation to families during divorce, separation and other family disputes. How do we help? Family Mediation Jersey can help you make joint decisions to resolve and prevent further disputes. What happens in mediation? Family Mediation Jersey can help you make joint decisions to resolve and prevent further disputes. Mediation is voluntary and confidential. Freely negotiated decisions can help restore communication, understanding and trust between you. If you have children, you, as parents, are the best people to decide their future, rather than the courts. Mediators are impartial and non-judgmental. Their job is to support you in reaching the best possible decisions about your family and its future. Mediators won’t tell you what to do, but will help you reach your own agreements. Mediation is a quicker, cheaper and less stressful alternative to using solicitors and the courts for those who are able to use it to resolve their family issues. Free of charge initial meeting The process starts with a free of charge initial meeting or intake session for each client. This is a discussion between you and your mediator about what is happening and what you want to achieve. Intake sessions usually last 45–60 minutes and will include an estimate of the cost of mediation if you wish to go ahead. Joint mediation session If everyone thinks it is worth a try, you will move forward to one or more joint mediation sessions. These usually last for 90 minutes. As a general guide sorting out child issues takes 1-3 sessions, property and finance 2-5 sessions and if discussing everything between 3 and 7 sessions. The number of sessions depends largely on the level of complexity and degree of conflict. And, of course, if you feel that it is not working for you – you can stop at any time.
