Lambeth Palace Library
Lambeth Palace Library is the historic library of the Archbishops of Canterbury and preserves the national archives of the Church of England. Our mission is to promote public access to our collection by welcoming researchers and through public engagement, such as outreach and cultural and academic partnerships. Its collections have been freely available for research from 1610, when it was founded under the will of Archbishop Richard Bancroft. In 1953, the Library was redefined as the main special library for the history of the Church of England, with additional responsibilities as a repository and research centre for Church of England archives. In 1996 it also took into its care the substantial pre-1850 manuscript and printed collections of Sion College library (founded 1629), the historic library of the City of London clergy. Lambeth Palace Library’s move to a purpose-built new building, which opened in 2021, has provided the opportunity to unite its archival collections with those of the former Church of England Record Centre and will ensure that all the Library’s collections are preserved in the best conditions and made more widely available in the future.

Liverpool Medical Institution
Liverpool Medical Institution is one of the oldest medical societies in the world, tracing its origins to the founding of the Liverpool Medical Library in 1779. For 50 years the Liverpool Medical Library was situated variously at the Liverpool Infirmary on Shaw's Brow, and the Liverpool Dispensary in Church Street. In the 1830s a campaign masterminded by Dr John Rutter, whose portrait is above, led to the raising of sufficient funds to erect the present building, which was opened in May 1837. The building, designed by Clark Rampling, has many unique architectural features made possible by its position on the corner of Hope Street and Mount Pleasant, including the Victorian Lecture Theatre and the curved Gallery with its glass roof domes. The building was extended in 1966 and underwent a major refurbishment in 1998 with the aid of Heritage Lottery funding. The Institution continues to serve the purposes for which it was founded, adapting itself to meet the various challenges of the times. For nearly two centuries the beautiful Grade II* listed building has been a focus of medical life and a meeting place for the medical community of Merseyside, its primary role being that of a medical library. The LMI is a Registered Charity and now exists to foster an environment for furthering medical education and knowledge - undergraduate, postgraduate and across all specialties. The Committee meets regularly to discuss and progress projects, initiatives, surveys and reports of benefit to the membership. Annual Conference and AGM The Association meets every year for an annual conference which is organised by the BLA Committee in conjunction with hosts from a volunteer member institution. Aside from the conference, members also meet at other BLA events such as training courses and meetings on topics of special interest. Membership Membership of the Association is open to institutions in the UK and Ireland that offer courses in management education at Masters level or above. Library staff engaged in the provision of business information at our member institutions are encouraged to contribute to the group.
