Typical measurements include Li, Mn, Co, Ni, K, Mg, Na, Ca, Zn, Al, Fe. The µDOES is based on optical emission spectroscopy; a spark (=micro-plasma) is generated directly inside the aqueous sample. During a millisecond-long plasma discharge (= spark), the sample solution gets flash-heated to a high temperature: molecular species in the water get dissociated into atoms, followed by excitation of the atoms to their higher electronic states.
