United Steel Industrial Company (Kuwait Steel) was established in 1996 by Kuwaiti investors.In the four years that followed Kuwait Steel in collaboration with VOEST Alpine of Austria erected the first fully automated rolling mill in Kuwait. Its first rolling mill, which is built on a square meter land area, has an annual production capacity of metric tons of reinforcing steel bars with sizes ranging from 8mm to 40mm in diameter. Today, Kuwait Steel is composed of two rolling mill plants with a combined annual production capacity of 1.4 million metric tons and a steel making plant that produces 1.2 million metric tons per year. All steel plants are running full production capacities, catering to market demand.
